Dr Toan

Viet Duc is a University teaching hospital in Hanoi. Dr, Toan is the director of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has become a friend over the past 10 years. He is committed to education and patient care. He would prefer to leave a residency position unfilled then fill it with a poor candidate. His residents and he work very hard. Every Thursday afternoon, they have an “indications” clinic. This is where his staff and residents present the previous weeks cases as well as those cases for the next week. It is a tour de force of orthopaedic pathology. We arrived about 2 and slowed the whole works down! He uses our visits to teach his staff and students. Discussions were held. In this case, Mexico, Brazil and the US did not always have the same answers which was very educational for all of us. Putting all our heads together came up with some very different answers then the initial one! 5 cases were chosen for us to operate on next Friday with Dr. Toan. For him to give up an OR for a day is huge. They are swamped with trauma and have little time for elective cases. It is good to see my friend.
